Home / Kitchen Design / Kitchen Bench Seating: Save space & add storage

Eating areas are a very important part of designing your kitchen.  While many families enjoy eating quicker meals such as breakfast or lunch at a kitchen island, dinner is usually family time where table seating is preferred.

Table seating is sometimes difficult in kitchen areas.  It takes up a lot of room.  Not only to you need space for the table, but also space for chairs to be pushed in and out as well as walk space around chairs without blocking traffic flow.

A great way to have the luxury or table seating with minimizing the space it takes is kitchen bench seating.  Bench seating is usually placed in a corner or at least against one wall.  A not so large table can seat more people because bench seats people closer together and you don’t need spacing between chairs.  Also because it is placed against walls you don’t need the space for pulling out chairs or walk through on one side.  Table is also placed closer to bench than chairs because it doesn’t get pulled in and out like a chair.

Bench seating has a lot to offer.  It is an intimate seating arrangement that can have a great look.  The bench itself can be paneled and finished to match your cabinetry.  Add some beautiful fabric to enhance the look and the comfort.  You can also add storage to your bench by either having the tops lift up or adding drawers below, for more accessible drawers place them on the return sides of the bench.

Not only does bench seating look beautiful, it also makes space more functional and can add storage.
